Psoriasis

Psoriasis modern and Ayurvedic view of treatment

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin, manifesting itself in the formation of scaly, dry, red and itchy spots on the surface of the skin. These lesions can occur on different parts of the body such as elbows, knees, back, scalp and other areas. In addition, psoriasis can also affect the nails, which can rot or deform.

Causes of origin

According to modern medicine, psoriasis is caused by a combination of genetic factors, the immune system and external triggers such as stress, infections or skin injuries. The immune system attacks the skin's own cells, causing inflammation and excessive production of skin cells.

According to the Ayurvedic point of view, psoriasis is associated with an imbalance in the tridosha, specifically with an excessive increase in Pitta dosha and Vata dosha. Lack of purity (Srotorodha), which creates an excessive amount of toxins in the body, can contribute to psoriasis. This condition can be caused by improper diet, lifestyle and emotional factors. This imbalance arises as a result of various factors that can affect the tridoshas and lead to disease.

  1. improper diet: according to Ayurveda, one of the main factors in the cause of psoriasis is improper diet. Eating foods that increase Pitta dosha, such as spicy, sour, red meat, alcohol and overly fatty foods, can contribute to inflammation and skin problems, including psoriasis. Similarly, eating foods with cooling properties can aggravate the imbalance of Vata dosha and cause illness.

  2. emotional stress: Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of emotional health in maintaining balance in the body. Emotional stress and tension can lead to a disturbance of the tridosha and cause an increase in the Pitta dosha, which can result in skin problems, including psoriasis.

  3. toxic accumulation in the body: according to Ayurveda, the accumulation of toxins in the body, called Ama, can interfere with the tridosha and cause various health problems, including skin conditions like psoriasis. These toxins can accumulate due to poor diet, impaired digestive function or insufficient detoxification.

  4. disorders of the digestive system: according to Ayurveda, the digestive system is key to maintaining the health of the body. Disorders of the digestive system can lead to an increase in Ama and an imbalance of the tridosha, which can result in skin problems, including psoriasis.

Therefore, according to Ayurveda, it is important to maintain a balanced lifestyle, follow a suitable diet, minimize stress and regularly detoxify the body in order to prevent the development of psoriasis or to alleviate its symptoms. Using appropriate Ayurvedic herbs while following the principles of Ayurveda can be an effective way to manage and treat psoriasis.
