Polyneuropathy

Polyneuropathymodern and Ayurvedic view of treatment

Polyneuropathy is a condition in which nerve fibers are damaged throughout the body. Its main symptoms include tingling, tingling, muscle weakness, pain and reduced sensitivity in various parts of the body. These symptoms can gradually worsen and affect the patient's daily activities.

Causes of origin

From the perspective of modern medicine, polyneuropathy can be caused by a variety of factors, including metabolic disorders (such as diabetes), toxic substances (such as alcohol), hereditary factors, and infections.

According to the Ayurvedic point of view, polyneuropathy is associated with an increase in the imbalance of Vata dosha in the body. In Ayurveda, Vata dosha is considered the energy of movement and communication in the body. It is responsible for all body movements, including the movement of muscles and nerves, as well as for the proper functioning of the nervous system. If there is an imbalance of the Vata dosha, it can lead to various health problems, including polyneuropathy.

Several factors can contribute to the imbalance of Vata dosha and subsequently to the emergence of polyneuropathy from an Ayurvedic point of view:

  1. improper diet: eating foods and drinks that are drying or cooling can increase Vata dosha in the body. Excessive use of spices, coffee, alcohol, dried foods and low-quality oils can contribute to Vata dosha imbalance and weakening of the nervous system.

  2. unhealthy lifestyle: lack of movement, incorrect sleeping habits, stress and excessive activity can lead to an imbalance in the body and an increase in Vata dosha. Insufficient sleep and an irregular schedule can have a negative effect on the nervous system and cause it to weaken.

  3. emotional stress: according to Ayurvedic teachings, emotional stress and tension can also lead to Vata dosha imbalance. Stress can cause toxins to accumulate in the body and affect its ability to maintain balance and harmony.

  4. climate conditions: according to Ayurveda, climate and seasons can also affect the imbalance of Vata dosha. A cold and dry climate can increase the Vata dosha and worsen the symptoms of polyneuropathy.

Therefore, in Ayurveda it is important to follow a balanced lifestyle, including a healthy diet, regular physical activity, relaxation techniques and care for emotional well-being, in order to maintain balance in the body and prevent the development of polyneuropathy. Adherence to these principles can also be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of this disease from an Ayurvedic point of view.

Recommended herbs

  1. Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha): is an adaptogenic herb that helps balance Vata dosha imbalances and strengthens the nervous system. It also has anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce the pain and inflammation associated with polyneuropathy.

  3. Ginkgo biloba: is known for its vasodilating properties, which means it helps improve blood flow to the brain and peripheral tissues. This can support the treatment of nerve cell damage and alleviate the symptoms of polyneuropathy.

  4. Guggul: contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds that can help reduce inflammation and protect nerve cells from damage. It also has a beneficial effect on fat metabolism, which may be important for patients with polyneuropathy associated with metabolic disorders.

  5. Ginger (Zingiber officinale): has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that can help relieve pain associated with polyneuropathy. In addition, it also supports a healthy digestive system and blood circulation, which can be beneficial for the overall health of the nervous system.

  6. Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): has immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties that can help restore and protect nerve cells. It also supports detoxification of the body and strengthens the immune system, which can be important for patients with polyneuropathy.
