AYURVEDIC OILS
Ayurvedic Oils — the liquid wisdom of India
Ayurvedic oils (known in Sanskrit as thailam or taila) are traditional herbal preparations that have been a cornerstone of Indian healing for more than three thousand years. They are made by slowly cooking carefully selected herbs in a natural base oil — most often sesame, coconut, or mustard — so that the active plant compounds are fully extracted and bound to the oil. Thanks to this process, the oil carries the therapeutic properties of dozens of herbs deep into the body's tissues, where creams and lotions cannot reach.
In Ayurveda, oils are used primarily for external application — massage (abhyanga), local oil baths (basti), and specialized Panchakarma therapies — but some are also intended for internal or nasal use. They are a natural choice for relieving muscle and joint pain, easing stiffness, nourishing the nervous system, supporting healthy circulation, and calming an aggravated Vata dosha. Beyond the musculoskeletal system, Ayurvedic oils are valued for the care of skin and hair, for relaxation and stress relief, and for supporting restful sleep. Each oil has its own unique formula and purpose — some warm and stimulate, others cool and soothe, and still others regenerate and rejuvenate.
